Singer/Producer — Liverpool
A XamVolo Photo
Name?
XamVolo
Where are you from?
Liverpool/London.
What do you do?
Singer/Producer.
Describe your style in three words?
Black Layered Vibes.
You can make a record with anyone from history - who would it be?
J Dilla. Chosen track 'Reminisce' by Bilal, produced by J Dilla.
What do you miss about home when you're on tour?
Not carrying around a damn suitcase!
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been too?
D’Angelo at O2 Manchester Ritz.
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
Labrinth.
You can spend an hour with anyone from history - who would it be and why?
Probably Leonardo Da Vinci. He had so many original ideas which weren't taken too seriously at first but eventually were given the respect they deserved. It takes a lot of guts to stand by original ideas even when no one else believes in them. As for what we'd actually do, we’d have a coffee and he’d draw some crazy stuff; we only have an hour so, you know...
XamVolo featured on our British New Wave 2017 piece, he is a singer and producer who creates progressive neo-soul music by fusing jazz grooves with dark electronic elements.
Listen to his latest single 'Money Store' below.
What was the first song you played on repeat?
'In Da Club' by 50 Cent.
One record you would keep forever?
'Gimme All Your Love' by Alabama Shakes.
Song you wish you had written?
'Swamp Thing' by Hiatus Kaiyote.
Song that defines the teenage you?
'Bartender' by T-Pain.
A song lyric that inspires you?
“We Gon’ Be Alright.”
'Alright' by Kendrick Lamar.
4 songs by new artists you can’t stop listening to right now?
'Get Low' by James Vincent McMorrow.
It’s just pure vibes, wasn’t expecting it all!
'Put That Away And Talk To Me' by James Blake.
It’s excellently produced, I like it for the same reasons anyone likes a good song.
'29 #Strafford APTS' by Bon Iver.
Excellent production and lyrics, the whole album was great but this one is so interesting to me.
'Link Up' by NxWorries.
It’s a vibe I didn’t know I needed until I heard it, I’m glad it exists in my life.
