Name, where are you from?
Joe Slater, from Croxteth in Liverpool.
Describe your style in three words?
Rock 'N’ Soul.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Probably The Isle Of Wight Festival 2018. I was playing on the Hard Rock Stage so I experienced the full weekend there and got to see loads of great artists and bands that I love in a field full of mud and booze. It was great!
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
That is such a hard question init? Like how can you even answer that...I would have to say Pink Floyd because I wish I could have seen them live and... Oasis...Cause like most North West lads they changed my life and inspired me so much inside of music and outside of music.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
I’d have to say Liverpool and The North West of England because there is such a strong culture here that is not quite like anywhere else in the world. Fashion-wise... musically... and in everyday life really. It’s a unique place and the birth of so many legendary artists and bands.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
It would probably have to be Liam and Noel Gallagher, only because they had such an impact on my young years growing up and the songs that Noel wrote will stay with me forever. I’d love more than anything to just shoot the shit with them you know? Just find out the method behind the madness.
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
My favourite venue to play is a place I’ve been many, many times and it’s a place called The Drawing Room in Chesham (Buckinghamshire) I first played there about 2 years ago and from the moment I entered its doors I was wowed. It is the most spectacular and intimate music venue I know of. It’s a truly magical place where the magic really happens.
Your greatest hero or heroine in music?
For me, my hero was always Liam Gallagher. That man changed my life with his cool, his attitude and the thing that always struck me about him was that whether you like what he said or not he always told the truth and kept it real. I carry that with me wherever I go in life. I think we all have a bit of Liam in us. Don’t hide it.
Hailing from Croxeth, Liverpool at just 22, rising newcomer Joe Slater delivers a blend of rock, blues, and soul that is beyond his years. 2018 saw Joe Slater perform at prestigious events such as the first anniversary of The Ned, the Hard Rock Cafe stage at the Isle of Wight Festival, The Cornbury Festival and The View from The Shard.

The first track you played on repeat?
The first song I played on repeat to my memory I’m sure was 'Please Forgive Me' by David Gray. The whole album 'White Ladder' was such a good record and one which I grew up listening to.
A song that defines the teenage you?
I’d have to say, 'Sultans Of Swing Dire Straits' because that’s the song I first learned how to play bar chords too. Me and my mate would sit in my mate's house for hours smoking and listen to all that kinda stuff playing our guitars. Love that tune.
One record you would keep forever?
It would have to be 'Don’t Think Twice' by Bob Dylan. One of my favourite songs of all time. Such a simple yet beautiful song. And that was what made him so great. In fact, I think the simplicity of the music is what gives it the originality.
A song lyric that has inspired you?

A song you wished you had written?
I wish I wrote 'Piano Man' by Billy Joel. What a f*ckin great song man. Describes a lot of musicians life’s that song and it’s just so true and real. Well done Billy lad.
Best song to turn up loud?
The Rolling Stones - 'Miss You'
Such a groovy track love it, man. Turn it right up!
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Jamie Callum - 'Next Year Baby'
What a great song and the band on it are great. I love Jamie anyway but that song is really out there and the whole album Twentysomething is a real favourite of mine.
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
Anytime James Brown - 'The Payback' is on I’m straight on the dance floor. What a funky tune man. I love it!
Best song to end an all-nighter?
Best way to end any all-nighter has to be something like 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' by Pink Floyd. I grew up listening to all that stuff you know and it’s the right way to slow down after a good old night on it.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
At the moment loving The DMA’S and Gerry Cinnamon. Both got some great tunes.
