A Brian Destiny Photo
Name, where are you from?
Brian Destiny. Born in Ireland. Moved to London.
Describe your style in three words?
Not groundbreaking.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I broke my opera virginity when I was twenty. A friend took me to watch la Boheme by Puccini. I cried at 'Si, mi chiamano Mimí'.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Chopin and Marvyn Gaye. I love them both.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I like greasy dance music so I’d have to say the rave culture in the '80s/'90s.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Napoleon. He fascinates me. Anyone who likes an epic story, he is worth your time.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
I’m not really a fan of venues. I much prefer football stadiums, and I’d have to say Anfield. I visited once when I was eight - Liverpool 3-0 Tottenham - and the sound is still the most ferocious thing I’ve ever heard.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Justin Maure. He was a great influence when I first started playing in London. very encouraging. Funny and dedicated. He’s got a lot of great songs.
Nathan Saoudi, after having spent the last ten years playing keys for the Fat White Family is now releasing new music as Brian Destiny.
His debut EP 'Brian's Got Talent' was released on 4th February 2022 via his newly created label, Dash The Henge. Brian also produced the new album 'INNIT' by SCUDFM, which was released the same day. You can purchase either record through dashthehenge.bandcamp.com.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Break On Through' by The Doors.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Who Knew' by Eminem.
One record you would keep forever?
'Nightshift' by the Commodores.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
'Human' by The Human League.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Rockin’ After Midnight' by Marvyn Gaye.
A song you wished you had written?
'Act Naturally' by Buck Owens.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Bridge Over Troubled Water' by Simon & Garfunkel.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Something About What Happens When We Talk' by Lucinda Williams.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Hammond Song' by The Roches.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Fast Track' by Merlin Nova.
