A CLT DRP Photo
Name, where are you from?
Annie Dorrett, I’m from Toronto, Canada but live in Brighton UK and I am one-third of CLT DRP.
Describe your style in three words?
Flustered, Rock Mom?
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I saw JPEGMAFIA last night at EartH, and it was honestly so good. He’s an incredible performer, and it was just an all-round bold show. Although Chelsea Wolfe at the Haunt a few years back is still probably the best gig I’ve ever seen, I’m pretty sure I cried at the front for the majority of her set.
If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Definitely would love to support Peaches her shows just look mental and I’ll say Prodigy for Scott as I think that would be his top choice.
Which Subcultures have influenced you?
Scott, Daphne and I definitely have very different influences when it comes to music, so I can’t speak for all of us on this one. I mean the Riot Grrrl movement and the bands that came out of that period influenced my whole attitude towards music and writing. Being able to talk/sing about men the way they’ve been talking about us for years was pretty empowering when I finally discovered it.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
This is like a horribly annoying question, and my brain is finding it very hard to pick just one person. Right now I would love to sit and talk to Munroe Bergdorf, she’s an activist I follow. I genuinely think I could learn a lot from her. I love the way she articulates herself and her opinions.
Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
I mean there’s plenty of really nice venues around, but a lot of the best gigs I’ve seen have been at local venues in Brighton. The Green Door Store & the Prince Albert Pub are my favourites. I actually work at the Albert so that’s a nice little perk. Intimate venues are just nicer, you can actually see what’s going on and it feels more personal.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Asking all of the hard things! I guess one of my favourite lyricists of all time is Ani Difranco, she’s written about 20 albums with some absolutely gorgeous songs on them, all very socially aware. It just amazes me not as many people know about her as you would think.
Originating from Canada, Greece and Southampton, CLT DRP met at University in UK's liberal capital of Brighton. The band made a huge impact on the local scene while garnering interest across the rest of the country and further afield. Since their first release, 'Merry Go Round', the trio have honed their sound combining EDM inspired electro-punk and quasi-satirical female pop. Recently signed to Small Pond Records CLT DRP will be releasing their debut album Without The Eyes on 15th May 2020 preceded by lead single 'Where The Boys Are'.
The first track you played on repeat?
No Doubt - 'Just a Girl'
I remember listening to my mom’s No Doubt CD a lot, love a little Gwen.
A song that defines the teenage you?
Avril Lavigne - 'Losing Grip'
One record you would keep forever?
Lucinda Wiliams - 'Car Wheels on a Gravel Road'
It’s a very sentimental album for me, it was played on every car journey with the family when I was a kid.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
LIZZO - 'Truth Hurts'
“I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m a 100% that b*tch’’ Clapback line of the century.
A song you wished you had written?
SmashMouth - 'All-Star' (they’re f*king minted mATE) in all seriousness maybe Phoebe Bridgers - 'Garden Song' it’s one of her new ones, but it makes me feel all the feelings and I’m obsessed with it.
Best song to turn up loud?
Princess Nokia - 'Tomboy'
There’s nothing more satisfying than screaming "my little titties and my fat belly" over and over in the car.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Runaway Jane - 'Buy My Own Drinks'
I love a feel-good country tune, what’s there not to like?
The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
N.E.R.D, Rihanna, Pharrell Williams - 'Lemon'
Have you heard it? It bangs.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
Mark Lanegan, ft. PJ Harvey - 'Hit the City'
It feels like an ending song, but not a sad song.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
The Japanese House - 'Chewing Cotton Wool'
I’ve recently discovered The Japanese House, I’ve had their new single on repeat for like a week straight now. It’s just so good.
