Name, where are you from?
Sam Herschmann, based between Oxford and London.
Describe your style in three words?
Ready 4tha hike.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Death Grips at Simple Things 2016.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Azymuth and Azimuth. Azymuth are an iconic Brazilian jazz-funk trio. Nothing but groove. They formed in the '70s and they’re still going strong. Azimuth were a UK trio comprised of legendary trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, singer Norma Winstone and pianist John Taylor. Truly other-worldly and absolutely unique.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Open-source culture.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Harambe - the guy had so much to give. Also, his beats were cold.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
The Old England (Bristol) back when there were gigs there. RIP.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Hermeto Pascoal. He is prolific. He plays every instrument under the sun and has worked on many of the most important records to come out of Brazil (and beyond).
Park Motive recently released their debut single 'Undark'. Listen, purchase or stream it via bfan.link/undark.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Numb' by Linkin Park.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Frame By Frame' by King Crimson.
One record you would keep forever?
'Imyra, Tayra, Ipy' by Taiguara. A gorgeous, harmonically dense, poetic, and politically significant record. Easily my favourite album of all time.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'All I Want' by Tim Maia.
A song you wished you had written?
'Both Sides Now' by Joni Mitchell.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Prayer' by Huun-Huur-Tu.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Apple Bottom Jeans' by Louis Armstrong.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'The Indivisible Force' by Current Value.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
Angel Rocket, Keg, Terror Peaks, Dear Laika, Duck Wax, Minor Conflict, Silkarmour, Kyoto Kyoto.
