Name, where are you from?
Jack Rowan, London.

Describe your style in three words?
DMs. Jeans. Polo. (Everyday staples).

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Alabama 3 at Brixton Academy. My old man’s not great with technology and after seeing an Alabama 3 fly poster, he asked me to see if there were any tickets left to see them. Little did he know, I was a big fan of them also. Thankfully there were a few tickets left! Fast forward 24 hours and we were stood in the perfect position, ears ringing, beers on tap at the first and only gig we’ve been to together. We had a great laugh and it was on this night I had to accept my dad’s cooler than me, as he stood there in his band t-shirt, singing along to every lyric...making me look like a fake fan.

If you could work with any film-maker in history?
If I could work with any film-maker, I would say Shane Meadows. The original ‘This is England’ movie was the first film I can remember that really affected me. I couldn’t stop thinking about it! On top of that, films like ‘A Room for Romeo Brass’ and ‘Dead Man’s Shoes’ are amongst my favourites of all time. I’d love to look back at a body of work one day and say “F*ck! I’ve worked with Shane Meadows!"

Which Subcultures have influenced you?
I’d say the late 1950s Mod fashion has influenced the way I dress. I genuinely live in Fred Perry Knitwear...and I’m not just saying that...this is merely a coincidence. Nonetheless, thanks for having me!

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Robin Williams. That man was and IS an icon. He’d make us all belly laugh in one movie, and make us cry in another. He was a unique and beautiful soul. If I’d had an hour with him, I’d have just sat and listened...and without doubt, laughed and cried.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Shane McGowan of The Pogues. Maybe, on the surface, people may see him as only a wild fella and/or doubt him as a 'pitch-perfect' singer. When really, he’s one of the most poetic songwriters there’s ever been. As Kirsty MacColl said, “No idiot could write the sort of songs he writes, he’s a genius you know.”

Jack Rowan is a British actor best known for his role as Bonnie Gold on 'Peaky Blinders' and currently stars in the BBC drama 'Noughts + Crosses'.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
‘Kiss Me Thru The Phone’ by Soulja Boy ft Sammie. Summer ‘09 banger.

A song that defines the teenage you?
‘Sticks ‘N’ Stones’ by Jamie T. Without fail, this was the song I played at the beginning of every night out. Brylcreem in the hair, Lynx Africa in the air, putting on my ten quid Harrington jacket I got off eBay...that I bought specifically because I saw him wearing one. Thought I was the dogs b*llocks to be honest!

One record you would keep forever?
‘People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm’ by A Tribe Called Quest.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
“Seize the moment,
try to freeze it and own it
squeeze it and hold it”

From ‘Sing For The Moment’ by Eminem.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
‘Mr. Brightside’ by The Killers.

A song you wished you had written?
‘Piano Man’ by Billy Joel. Just pure poetry.

Best song to turn up loud?
‘Thunder Road’ by Bruce Springsteen. Whenever I’m on a road trip, I put this on full blast and literally...”Roll down the window and let the wind blow back”...my hair.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
‘Heaven Is a Place On Earth’ by Belinda Carlisle. This song lands in my annual Spotify playlist every year without fail.

Best song to end an all-nighter on?
‘No. 1 Party Anthem’ by Arctic Monkeys. In fact, I’ve always felt the entire ‘AM’ album depicts the different stages of a night out.

Any new bands you are listening to right now?
‘English Weather’ by Feet.
‘Something For The Weekend’ by The Rhythm Method.
‘Light On’ by Maggie Rogers.
‘Too Much To Ask’ by Moonchild.
