03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Maggie, Hampshire.

Describe your style in three words?
Easy-going, practical, cosy.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Leonard Cohen at the O2, he spent most of the gig on his knees. I could barely make him out, he was a tiny speck from where I sat in the heavens.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
I believe they call it cottagecore.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history, who would you choose?
I’d wrestle Andy Kaufman.

Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
Used to spend a lot of time in The Paris House (Le Pub) in Brighton and I miss it desperately.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Connie Converse.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'Potential New Boyfriend' by Dolly Parton.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'Teenage Spaceship' by Smog.

One record you would keep forever?
'Court and Spark' by Joni Mitchell.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
Don’t know if ‘inspired’ is the right word, but I think about the lyrics to 'In Spite of Ourselves' by John Prine and Iris Dement a lot.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Time (You and I)' by Khruangbin.

Best song to turn up loud?
'Manhattan' by Cat Power.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'November Rain' by Guns N' Roses.

Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Thirteen' by Big Star.

Any new music you are listening to right now?
Not new music but at the moment I’m listening to this sort of thing: 'Time after Time' by Cyndi Lauper, 'Montezuma' by Fleet Foxes, 'Drover' by Bill Callahan, 'Random Rules' by Silver Jews, 'Laughter is the Best Medicine' by Cass McCombs, 'I’ve Been Riding With The Ghost' by Songs: Ohia and 'Another Day' by Roy Harper.
