Name, where are you from?
Monet, Peckham - South London.
Describe your style in three words?
Minimalistic, bold colours, creps.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
It’s a tie between Solange at love box and Erykah Badu at Field Day.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
I would pick Aaliyah because her music is timeless and Ojerime because I’ve seen her live and she’s amazing.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I’ve definitely been influenced by the lovers rock community. It’s one of my favourite genres. My family originates from Jamaica, so it was a sound I grew up on.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I would love to spend an hour with Frank Ocean just to get to know him. He seems like someone I could learn a lot from.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
I remember going to see Mahalia perform at Omeara a few years back and thinking how beautiful it looked inside. Since then, I’ve always wanted to perform there.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
I definitely think it would have to be Alexandria and MIKE both for the same reasons. I think they each make exceptional music but are very underrated.
Monet recently released her new track 'No Words', taken from her forthcoming EP 'Profile 1.' Listen, purchase or stream it via linktr.ee/monetmia.
The first track you played on repeat?
My mum told me when I was younger, I would always sing 'I’m Coming Out' by Diana Ross, so I guess that would be the first-ever song I had on repeat.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Supermodel' by SZA.
One record you would keep forever?
'Superman' by Black Coffee.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"They ask me who I stand with I say balance"
From 'Nation Tyme.' by Pink Siifu.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Let’s Groove' by Earth, Wind & Fire.
A song you wished you had written?
'Both Sides Of The Moon' by Celeste.
Best song to turn up loud?
'INDIA' by Lancey Foux.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'My One And Only Love' by John Coltrane, Johnny Hartman.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Jerrod' by Solange.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Dragonfly.' by Lxdxp.
'Mediocre' by Kayowa.
'Boundaries' by BINA.
