A RIP Swirl Photo
Name, where are you from?
Luka, born and raised in Hamburg.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Feel like I probably only remember half of the gigs I’ve been to but I saw The Red Hot Chilli Peppers as a teenager, I've always been a huge Frusciante fan, so that was pretty cool.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Arthur Russell and Kenny Burrell.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Skateboarding for sure cause skate videos used to be my source for new music growing up. Metal - playing harder music in bands as a teen and going to a lot of shows definitely influenced me a lot. Was a great scene to be part of.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Salem, the cat in Sabrina The Teenage Witch. I just wonder how it must be to be turned into a cat after trying to take over the world.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
Low End Theory at The Airliner in LA. I don’t think there were many venues as influential to a certain genre creating a whole scene around it.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Duster. They’re getting the recognition they deserve since being rediscovered by many in recent years but they should be huge.
RIP Swirl recently released his debut album 'Blurry' via Public Possession. Listen, purchase or stream it via ffm.to/ripswirl.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Clint Eastwood' by Gorillaz. First CD I got for my birthday.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'A Lot Like Vegas' by Bring Me The Horizon.
One record you would keep forever?
There are many records I wouldn’t be able to live without but if I had to choose one, it would probably be 'Paranoid' by Black Sabbath.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
“Tarot cards and the lines in my hand, tell me I'm wrong, but they're untrue”
From 'Miss Misery' by Elliott Smith.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Flat Beat' by Mr. Oizo.
A song you wished you had written?
'Loser' by Beck.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Redlight' by Salem.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'4'33"' by John Cage.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Carbonated' by Mount Kimbie.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'By the C' by blair.
