A Good Health Good Wealth Photo
Name, where are you from?
Good Health Good Wealth (Bruce and Simon), London Town.
Describe your style in three words?
B: Trenchcoat tracksuit combo (technically 4 words).
S: Classic, classic, classic.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
B: Maybe not the best or coolest but the first gig I ever went to was Boyz II Men at the Southend Cliffs Pavilion which in itself is a pretty hilarious sentence. Why did they bother?! I remember them when they played 'Motownphilly' it blew my little blonde head off though so I’m glad they did.
S: Picking bests and favourites is really hard, but I saw Tame Impala early doors, before they/he blew up. That was cool.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
B: Kanye West, I think he is our generation’s Michael Jackson, my biggest musical influence by a country mile. I suppose it makes sense to put the actual Michael Jackson on the bill too, the 'Thriller' kinda era before things went too nutty.
S: Let's say The Clash and Wu-Tang Clan in their prime.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
B: Everything! All the swing rat pack stuff, punk and new wave from dad, Motown from my mum. The subculture I’ve been influenced by the most would be hip-hop, not the conscious geek rap that people with backpacks listen to and not the newer mumble stuff. I’m talking big chain, baggy jeans, smack you in the mouth rap music, 50 Cent, The Game, Dipset, Mobb Deep, Alchemist, Clipse, Eminem etc.
S: Kind of have to agree with the above. Growing up punk and rock n’ roll in general was a big part of my life, but then being from eastern Europe, electronic music was also huge. Everything from punk to hip-hop and beyond. In a way, these two are the same, voices for the people that were oppressed and sick of the BS and wanted to tell the world how they felt, whilst having fun in the meantime. Powerful stuff.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
B: Tom Waits, I’d love to pick his brain. I think he’s the best at writing beauty from darkness. I also bet he’d be proper grumpy so an hour would be the optimum amount of time to spend with him before he started to hate my guts. Either that or Mac Miller, he seemed like a bloody nice bloke.
S: Maybe my grandad? He passed away when I was really young. Would be interesting to actually meet him properly and chew some fat. Or maybe grabbing a glizzy and going down the arcades with someone like Christopher Walken would be fun.
B: Oh well now I look like a b*stard, of course I’d do the same and spend an hour with Grandad Paddy!
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
B: The Sebright Arms, it’s a bit of a sweatbox but it was where we played our first headline show surrounded by our people so it’ll always be a special place.
S: The above is correct. The Garage in Glasgow is also a nice venue, the fragments of the bits I actually remember are very bright.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
B: Chad Hugo, the other half of The Neptunes, Pharrel gets all the plaudits but real one’s know that Chad is the mad professor.
S: Many many heroes, hard to say. Me being a guitarist, maybe John Frusciante? He single-handedly was my biggest teacher and inspiration in terms of guitar playing growing up.
Good Health Good Wealth's next gig will be supporting The Twang at O2 Academy, Islington on 19th March 2022.
GHGW also released their debut mixtape 'Happy Valley' in January 2022 which you can stream or purchase via goodhealthgoodwealth.bandcamp.com.
The first track you played on repeat?
B: 'Return Of The Mack' by Mark Morrison was the first record I ever bought, cassette as well!
S: I remember there being a bootleg cassette at home with some Depeche Mode and some other stuff. I remember playing that quite a bit.
A song that defines the teenage you?
B: 'If I Had' by Eminem.
S: 'Lust For Life' by Iggy Pop.
One record you would keep forever?
B: 'In Search Of...' by N.E.R.D.
S: 'The Essential Leonard Cohen' by Leonard Cohen.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
B: "Just when I discovered the meaning of life / They change it / Just when I'm loving life / It seems to start raining"
From 'Everything is Borrowed' by The Streets.
S: "As my world / Comes crashing down / I'll be dancing / Freaking out / Deaf, dumb, and blind"
From 'Present Tense' by Radiohead (Thom Yorke).
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
B: 'Rock Your Body' by Justin Timberlake.
S: 'Don’t Leave Me This Way' by Thelma Houston.
A song you wished you had written?
B&S: 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' by The Verve.
Best song to turn up loud?
B: 'Born to Run' by Bruce Springsteen.
S: 'Robot Rock' by Daft Punk.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
B: 'Life Is A Rollercoaster' by Ronan Keating.
S: 'I’m Like A Bird' by Nelly Furtado. Some of that early 2000s pop was absolute gold.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
B: 'One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)' by Frank Sinatra.
S: 'Norrland' by Gidge.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Bit Of Taste' by Joe James.
'Symmetry' by BAD WITH PHONES.
'Same Songs' by Jeshi.
'Dash Snow' by Dean Blunt.
'and i’d go a thousand miles' by Montell Fish.
'Wildfires' by SAULT.
