03Interview

Name, where are you from?
Kishin, London.

Describe your style in three words?
What I want.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Black Kray or Robb Bank$. Cause they were pretty rare and the shows themselves were pretty cool even if everyone was trying to ‘out-hypebeast’ each other. Rare opportunities. My own shows are pretty cluckin' cool too.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands or artists in history?
Rick James or Prince because they are the coolest dudes ever, no debating. Beyonce honourable mention cause she has the most hits ever and maybe Ozzy Osbourne so I can tell him NOT to eat the bat.

Which Subcultures have influenced you?
Too many. I take pieces of everything and apply it to my everyday life which makes it kinda hard to pinpoint. A lot of American culture mixed with British and Caribbean. From literature to gaming. I like to think I'm a melting pot of stuff and me being Guyanese kinda tops that all off.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Vince Staples. Or Tommy Wiseau so I can ask him what the hell he was smoking when he made 'The Room'.

Of all the venues you’ve been to, which is your favourite?
Ion care about any of these venues but we gotta hail up Birthdays Dalston (R.I.P) for the amount of music and good nights that were put on there. And for memories of me hiding in the toilet tryna dodge I.D checks. Good times.

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
I have to say SpaceGhostPurrp by default as most things alternative and even mainstream in the last decade can be linked back to him. He kinda ruined it himself but flowers are needed and not enough people know. Jay Critch also super important for New York hip-hop specifically.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'Fire It Up' by Busta Rhymes. Ion know if I had it on repeat but this is defo the first song I can remember dancing a few times to as a kid. And I thought the world was gonna look like the video does by 2021. Instead, I'm still topping up £10 on my Oyster for dirty trains.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'U Da Type' by 5 Finger Posse. A song describing the type of people that piss them off and boy did I hate everyone.

One record you would keep forever?
'Risin To The Top' by Kenni Burke. Such a smooth classic that pretty much fits any scenario in life. Amazing song.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
"Who can I love when they tell me I can't love myself?
How in the hell could I possibly love someone else?"

From 'Let Me Know' by Brent Faiyaz. Pretty self-explanatory but I heard those lyrics at a time I really needed to.

A song you wished you had written?
'Hive' by Earl Sweatshirt (ft. Vince Staples). Vince Staples verse specifically probably my top three hip-hop verses of all time.

Best song to turn up loud?
'El Mimi' by Kish! X RADA. Shameless plug.

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Oblivion' by Grimes. Lmao.

The song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Dope Runna' by Kane Grocerys. Every. Time.

Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Reckless' by Arin Ray.

Any new music you are into at the moment?
'So much to say' by Big Nate.
'Get The Strap' by TiaCorine.
'Glockie in the G star Jeans' by Black Kray.
'Permission' by Chavo.
'PHILLY' by Cosima.
'Go 2 Hell' by Jay Critch.
'Geeked Out My Body' by Duwap Kain.
'FORBES' by Pablomari.
'Petrol Pumps' by Reckz’Capo.
'Eternal' by Jenevieve.
'PradaU' by Abiiogenesis.
