Name, where are you from?
PVA, originally from across London, with Ella now all the way up in Manchester slowly beginning to say "sound" at the end of every sentence.
Describe your style in three words?
Super f***ing extra.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
J: Lynks Afrikka at Knee Deep Festival, it popped off.
E: Post End Of The Road Festival, probably Squid covering Robert Wyatt’s 'Pigs…(In There)' at the Tipi Tent. However both our answers refer to festivals from the weekend just gone, so maybe we’re a little bias.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
J: Kanye West, doesn’t need a reason, because it's Ye & Lizzo.
E: Ata Kak & The Weather Girls, jaw would ache from all the smiling.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
The '70s Disco Scene in New York and the Ballroom Scene in the ’80s. Both were safe spaces for people to come together to dance and have a good time. Really highlights for us everything we love about dance music, and its abilities to bring groups of people closer to one another.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Taj Mahal, we've been covering 'Strong Man Holler' since our first ever gig, we are now terrified that if we don’t play it at every show a stage light will fall on one of our heads.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
The Windmill, Brixton Forever. Played some very special gigs there. We love you, Tim Perry.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
E: Arthur Russel. The range in his music, that spans from the folkiness of tracks in the compilation 'Love Is Overtaking Me' to whacked out cello in 'World of Echo', shows someone who is a true innovator. Plus all his work in the dance world is great. Favourite projects being Dinosaur L & Loose Joints.
The first track you played on repeat?
L: 'Sound Of The Underground' by Girls Aloud.
E: 'Laura' by Scissor Sisters.
J: 'Miss Independent' by Ne-Yo.
A song that defines the teenage you?
L: 'Nightbirds' by Shakatak.
J: 'Movin' On Up' by Primal Scream.
E: 'The Girls' by Calvin Harris.
One record you would keep forever?
J: 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' by David Bowie.
E: 'Easily Slip Into Another World' by Henry Threadgill.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
E: "I just took a DNA test turns out I’m 100% that bitch."
From 'Truth Hurts' by Lizzo.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
E: 'Venue Fly' by Grimes ft. Janelle Monáe.
J: 'Love Comedown' by Evelyn 'Champagne' King.
L: 'Young Hearts' by Candi Staton.
A song you wished you had written?
E: 'Coming Up' by Paul McCartney.
J: 'Get Outta My Way' by Kylie Minogue.
L: 'Forgive My Heart' by Bobby Womack.
Best song to turn up loud?
L: 'Bug Powder Dust' La Funk Mob Mix.
E: 'Work It' by Marie Davidson.
J: 'VYZEE' by SOPHIE.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
E: 'Shut Up' by Josh Baxter.
J: 'Naked Alone' by L Devine, INDIIA.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
L: 'Waiting In Vain' by Bob Marley.
E: 'Tezeta (Nostalgia)' by Mulatu Astatke.
J: 'My Baby Just Cares For Me' by Nina Simone.
