03Interview

Describe your style in three words?

Heart and soul.

The first track you played on repeat?

The Jam - To Be Someone (Didn't We Have A Nice Time)

Difficult to remember exactly what song this would be, I remember buying 'All Mod Cons' and being absolutely blown away by it, I played it non stop and this track is still one of my favourites.

A song from your favorite album?

Prefab Sprout - Bonny - 2007 Remastered Version

'Steve McQueen' is a faultless album, every track is stunning, but 'Bonny' is my absolute favourite track. It’s a beautiful tune. As with most of Paddy McAloon's music, the lyrics are fabulous. It’s on every playlist I make.

A song from your most memorable gig?

Simple Minds - Waterfront - Live

Barrowland in Glasgow 1983. Opening track, the bass line started and the whole place was absolutely rocking, you could feel the floor moving up and down. The best venue in the world.

A song that always gets you up and dancing?

Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - Heatwave - Album Version (Mono)

I love soul and Motown music and this track is just so uplifting, full of joy and happiness.

A new song you're listening to?

Curse of Lono - Let Your Love Rain Down On Me

I heard this recently and absolutely love it, the whole album is fantastic but this is a real standout track.

Best song to turn up loud?

Sam Fender - Get You Down

This is a brilliant tune for driving, play it really loud in the car, got to hand it to Sam Fender he has written some great tunes.

A song that defines the teenage you?

The Jam - Strange Town

The Jam and Paul Weller have been the soundtrack of my life. This song defines the teenage me.

An anthemic song?

Prince - Controversy

One of my regrets is not seeing Prince live, absolute musical genius and this song is fantastic.

Best song to end an all-nighter?

The Blue Nile - Saturday Night

Outstanding tune, Paul Buchanan is one of the greatest songwriters ever. This song is simply perfect in every way.
