A John Hassall Photo
Name?
John Hassall
Where are you from?
Islington in North London, now living in Aarhus, Denmark.
What do you do?
Bass player in The Libertines, writer and singer in John Hassall & The April Rainers.
Describe your style in three words?
Rock/Pop/Psychedelic.
How should your music be listened to?
Preferably whilst driving or on vinyl on a Saturday morning
What do you miss about home when you're on tour?
I miss having the day-to-day life together with my wife and kids but I guess it makes you appreciate it even more when you come home.
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
Not that many at the moment to be honest!
John Hassall is The Libertines bassist, his new band The April Rainers released their debut album on 'Wheels To Idyll' on 25th November 2016.
What was the first song you played on repeat?
'I Want To Hold Your Hand' by The Beatles.
A song from your favourite album?
'Getting Better' by The Beatles from Sgt Pepper. Could be any song really from Sgt Pepper. The album's just got a great feel to it.
Song you wish you had written?
'Catch The Wind' by Donovan. I love playing this song on the guitar. Donovan seemed to be happy making music he really loved and that other people love too.
The Song with your favourite lyrics?
Not really that much of a lyrics man, but something like 'Sunny Goodge Street' by Donovan has some great images in.
4 songs by new bands you can’t stop listening to right now?
The Libertines - Gunga Din
Because I like it and play it every night.
John Hassall & The April Rainers - My Two Wheels
Because I'm super happy with the recording and it's got a 5 minute guitar freak out at the end.
Temples - Golden Throne
I think it's the best song I've heard for a long while and there's alot of interesting things going on in it.
Carl Barat & The Jakals - Glory Days
Awesome song and great pirate vibe.
