A Bryony Photo
Name, where are you from?
Bryony, Leicester / London.
What do you do?
I’m a designer and maker. I also work at the Seven Dials store.
Describe your style in three words?
Eclectic, balanced and a bit androgynous.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to in London?
Little Simz, she’s incredible.
Which British subcultures have influenced you?
Punk, northern soul and two-tone/ska.
Best British musician?
That is a big question but probably Joe Strummer.
Where is your favourite independent venue in London?
The Chateau, the space closed last year but the nights live on around SE London.
What is the best-kept secret in London?
That people are actually quite nice here.
Best place to hang out in London?
Battersea Park or the V&A if it’s raining.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Rat In Mi Kitchen' by UB40. When I was 4 years old, my parents had the record and I was obsessed.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Complicated' by Avril Lavigne.
One record you would keep forever?
'Sunday Girl' by Blondie.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
'Everything is Borrowed' by The Streets.
A song you wished you had written?
'9 To 5' by Dolly Parton. I think it’s one of the cleverest songs ever written, the royalties would be nice too.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Bad Reputation' by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
Maybe… 'Backyard Bastards' by Wargasm.
A song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'Shame Shame Shame' by Shirley & Company.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'I Want to Break Free' by Queen.
Any new bands you’re into at the moment?
Priya Ragu, BabyQueen and Billy Nomates to name a few.
