A Chloe Marriott Photo
Name?
Chloe Marriott
Where are you from?
A very small paradise island called Canvey, in Essex.
What do you do?
I write songs, sing the blues and play huge guitars.
Describe your style in three words?
Jeans, Fred Perry, repeat.
You can make a record with anyone from history - who would it be?
Jimi Hendrix, 1967, as soon as he landed in London.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been too?
The Specials at the Troxy on the 15th of this month! They opened their set with ‘Ghost Town’ and everyone went mad!
The Strypes at the Oysterfleet on Canvey, they were incredible also.
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
Steve Marriott, Paul Weller, Amy Winehouse.
You can spend an hour with anyone from history - who would it be and why?
BB King, King of the blues! My very first guitar solo I learnt to play was part of ‘The Thrill Is Gone’ when I was 9 years old. Ten years on and I’m still in love. Just a jam with the man would be cool.
What was the first song you played on repeat?
'Got My Mojo Working' by Muddy Waters.
One record you would keep forever?
'Stanley Road' by Paul Weller.
My whole childhood was spent listening to 'Broken Stones'.
Song you wish you had written?
'Grits Ain’t Groceries' by Little Milton.
One of my fave songs of all time.
Song that defines the teenage you?
'From The Ritz To The Rubble' by the Arctic Monkeys.
A song lyric that inspires you?
"I write this now while I’m in control, I’ll choose the words and how the melody goes."
'Sunflower' by Paul Weller.
4 songs by new bands you can’t stop listening to right now?
'Don’t Wanna Fight' by Alabama Shakes
Brittany Howard… What a woman! Her voice is so strong and like nothing I’ve heard, such an inspiration to me.
'Our Love' by Samm Henshaw
Proper soulful, has stuck in my mind since I heard it live last month.
'Trampled Under Foot' by Son Little
Amazing what he’s done to this classic Zeppelin track.
'Human' by Rag ‘N’ Bone Man
I first heard ‘Human’ on Jools Holland, huge fan of the song, Think I must have listened to it at least 200 times now.
