A Jake Photo
Name, where are you from?
Hi, I’m Jake and I’m from London.
What do you do?
I’m a fashion model and creative.
Describe your style in three words?
My style is definitely punk, new romantic with a splash of '90s/'00s.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Arctic Monkeys in 2013. 'From The Ritz To The Rubble' was electric!
If you could put any three bands on a line up?
Joy Division, Roxy Music and The Cure.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Definitely punk and skinhead culture. I’ve admired the anarchistic approach and particularly the style since I was young. I’m also a big fan of the new Romantic phase during the 1980s.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Amy Winehouse. I’ve listened to her music for many years, I’d love to spend the evening with her at Jazz After Dark in Soho.
Your favourite independent venues?
The 100 Club in Oxford Circus. The club is iconic and has so much history. Some of my best nights out have been there. Especially seeing The Vibrators perform 'Stiff Little Fingers' a few years ago. Wild!
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Ian Curtis - Joy Division. His style, passion and stage presence has always captivated me. Particularly his signature dance moves.
The first track you played on repeat?
Oh god haha. It has to be 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love' by The Darkness. I was around nine when it came out... obsessed!
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Born Slippy' by Underworld.
One record you would keep forever?
'Unknown Pleasures' by Joy Division (1979).
A song lyric that has inspired you?
Not so much a particular lyric but I’ve always found 'Burning Heart' by Survivor inspiring particularly when I’m boxing. Cliché!
A song you wished you had written?
'Fake Plastic Trees' by Radiohead.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Firestarter' by The Prodigy. It’s rude to play this song quietly!
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'I Keep Forgettin' by Micheal McDonald.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
Definitely 'Let’s Dance' by David Bowie. I’m the first on the dance floor when this comes on.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Mad Sounds' by Arctic Monkeys is always a solid go-to.
Any new bands you are into at the moment?
Slaves and Sleaford Mods. Both have such a great sound.
