Name, where are you from?
Jena Keating and I'm from Cork, Ireland.

Describe your style in three words?
Baggy, baggy, clothes.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
So I've only gone to about six gigs in my life, two of them being in the last three weeks so I'm going to land on Aby Coulibaly. Went to it on the 29th of July and it was the best is because it was another Irish artist performing her first gig and doing a damn good job. So that was special to witness.

If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
One of them would be Ashnikko, HANDS DOWN she lives by no rules and I'm in awe of her ability to be nothing other than herself in every lane she takes. Plus she hasn't released one song I haven't lost my sh*t over, a true g. Another would be Nix Northwest. His music really taught me there are different ways to move in melodies which has definitely contributed to new flows within my own music. Two class acts.

Which subcultures have influenced you?
100% the Irish rap scene. It taught me I could be an Irish artist and be proud. There is (but mainly was) a lot of laughter within Ireland when it comes to Irish artists sounding Irish which is ridiculous but it's always empowered me. Lawrii Craic was a MASSIVE influence in my journey to where I am and Skripteh I've also highly admired. So yeah, feck yes to the Irish.

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Lil Peep, he's actually the reason I started writing songs. Listening to his music was completely different to what so much of the music industry stood for and with what I wrote on paper (poetry) for years, none of it made as much sense as he did to me.

Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
So this little baba has yet to play her first gig yet so in regards to my limited gig experience, I'd have to say Aby’s again. What a fecking set-up. Was in Axel Arigato in Soho and hot damnnnnnnn that place was slick. Plus the free alcohol was a nice touch!

Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Tora-i deserves SOOOOOOO much more recognition but I know that she will get it as time goes on. Regarding why pfffffffff... All you need to do is listen and you'll have the answer but my reason for saying herself would be her lyrics, her variation of tones, the pronunciation of words, flow, voice. Just eryyyyting. She is so specific with her detail and every bit of it matters.

Jena Keating recently released her new track 'Vanilla'. Listen, purchase or stream it via linktr.ee/jenakeatinggg.

04Playlist Notes

The first track you played on repeat?
'Lollipop' by Lil Wayne. Twelve year old me was a g.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'MBD' by The KTNA (instead of twenty-four hours it was every five minutes).

One record you would keep forever?
'Iron Sky' by Paolo Nutini.

A song lyric that has inspired you?
“It's called a habitat cause this is where the habits at” - Lawrii Craic.

The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Whoopty' by CJ would get every bone moving.

A song u wished you had written?
Such a good q, I'd probably say 'Make Me Cry' by Pip Millett, full of feelings.

Best song to turn up loud?
'Invitation' by Ashnikko (ft. Kodie Shane).

A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Strange Fruit' by Billie Holiday.

Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'Addicted' by Jorja Smith. Might help me to cry myself to sleep from the bad choices of sleep deprivation.

Any new music you are listening to right now?
Listen to new artists every day but the last liked song on my Spotify is 'Salve' By Tasha & Tracie, JXNV$ and Pizzol. Couldn't stop bopping my head.
