The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?
The Stone Roses - Standing Here
In my teens in the '90s, growing up in Manchester, UK, The Stone Roses were on all the time. The indies scene in these years was the genuine iconic sound of Manchester music.
A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?
The Beatles - Dear Prudence - Remastered 2009
Timeless song from a classic album. Simple, beautifully crafted tune that's always a pleasure to hear.
A song from your most memorable gig?
Lenny Kravitz - Let Love Rule
Manchester Apollo, 1991, stage front. I was 15 and had started to appreciate rock the year before this gig which included Lenny's first album, 'Let Love Rule'. The year before I was at a Public Enemy gig also at the Apollo, another very memorable gig! The golden era of rap.
A song that always gets you up and dancing?
The Selecter - On my Radio
This song is the essence of the '70-80s ska revival in the UK. I have always loved ska, reggae, rocksteady, especially live.
A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?
Soundscapes - Relaxing Music - Space rock
Inspirational background music that doesn't put you to sleep or dominate your mind, when I'm painting or writing.
Best song to turn up loud? And why?
Led Zeppelin - Bring It on Home - 2012 Remaster
Driving. The main riff, baseline and drum cohesion is simply magical and LZ at their best in my opinion. Has to be loud or not at all.
A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?
Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've?) - 1996 Remastered Version
This typifies awkward teen years! But hard to pick as I was listening to so many different music types during that time, not much has changed!
An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?
Coldplay - Adventure of a Lifetime
It's positive, makes you think about your whole life, and what may be beyond.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
Jimi Hendrix - One Rainy Wish
This song is my favourite alarm tunes! No matter how much sleep I didn't get or whatever else happened the night before, if I have to get up this is the sound to start that kind of day with as the first thing you hear.
