A KeepVibesNear Photo
Name, where are you from?
KeepVibesNear, I am from East London.
Describe your style in three words?
Comfy, eclectic vibes.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
A real long time ago I see The Internet live at Jazz Cafe, like 2014 or something. Always stuck out to me, remember seeing their live band and everything I had listened to for ages, Syd doing her thing and it made me think "I could be doing this".
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Anderson .Paak and Daniel Caesar. Feel like the energy would be dope and the music would flow crazy. That would be a very cohesive night.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
I’d say hip-hop has been a big part of my life. Finding my identity. Before I sang, I danced and I feel like it’s been infectious to my interest and my favourite pastime for as long as I can remember. Alt hip-hop really stuck out to me as well cause I felt it opened a place for a lot of like-minded people.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
I’d love to sit down with Andre 3000 from Outkast. Seems like such a wise man. You hear so many cool stories bout him and he really seems like one of the first black people I heard of that looked like me but was pushing boundaries in that way.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
Of all the venues I’ve played, my favourite would be Jazz Cafe. It was a venue I watched some of my favourite acts growing up so when I was there it felt very fulfilling. To have that experience in such a nice venue.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
I’d say Tyler, The Creator. I don’t think people realise how big the impact he had on a whole generation of people that are making music now and trying to express themselves. What he made and caused being a part of Odd Future is something I was lucky to have growing up. Being exposed to the Frank Oceans, Hodgy Beats and the likes of The Internet was life-changing for me those days.
KeepVibesNear follows up his recent single 'Late Night Drive' with his new track, 'Late Night Link' (ft. Harvey White and Luke RV). Listen, purchase or stream both via bio.to/KVN.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Doo Wop (That Thing)' by Ms. Lauryn Hill.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Oldie' by Odd Future.
One record you would keep forever?
'Take Me Away' by John Legend.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
'Lightning' by Orion Sun.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'Rapid Fire' by Santi.
A song you wished you had written?
'Love You Too Much' by Lucky Daye or 'Exhausted' by H.E.R.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Okok (Hibachi)' by Jordan Ward.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Your Body Is A Wonderland' by John Mayer.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
'The Wilhelm Scream' by James Blake.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Raw' by LOONY.
'The Day I Broke My Bike' by Jim Legxacy.
'WFM' by RealestK.
'Dark Cloud' by BINA.
