A Lorena Vianca Photo
Name, where are you from?
My name is Lorena Vianca and I am from Melbourne, Australia. Ethnicity wise I am half Australian and half Peruvian.
What do you do?
I am an artist and model. I write songs and I love to sing them. I’m working on music now, taking my time, learning and growing as I go. I respect the art so much so I want to gracefully evolve into the artistry as the timing becomes more right. I’ve been modelling since I was fourteen to now. I love working with a team of creative people that all have the same vision for a shoot. it makes it more exciting and purposeful. Can’t wait to get back to performing in 2022.
Describe your style in three words?
Classy, sultry and casual. I love to mix different styles, such as streetwear, and a more elegant style. Finding ways I can put the two together and make it work is really exciting and creates a more accurate representation of who I am through fashion. I’ve definitely had my moments when it didn’t work but that’s just the fun of it. I'm Still experimenting and enjoying the creativity that fashion can give you.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to in Australia?
I couldn’t say at this moment that I’ve been to too many gigs but if a tour counts, Billie Eilish was incredible. When she sang 'when the party’s over' I was so in awe of her, and the song and I just love the energy from the crowd when she sang it. Everyone was in their feels and connecting with the performance. Best performance I’ve seen so far.
Which Australian subcultures have influenced you?
The Melbourne RnB scene has so much talent it's crazy. I am constantly inspired by the artists here. By what they create and how unique it is. The atmosphere of the Melbourne scene is pretty supportive and I feel like everyone has their own magic and it blends nicely into a diverse, artistic community of artists. Still evolving as an artist myself I feel blessed to be surrounded by innovative creatives that push me to keep striving for growth.
Best Australian musician?
Right now I think CD is killing it. She cares so much about her craft and has such a meaningful purpose and vision for her music. Her latest single 'Catcha Grip' encourages self-love and empowerment for women in such a beautiful and elegant way. Not to mention her voice is just honey. Always excited to see what she has coming.
Where is your favourite independent venue in Australia?
There’s this Peruvian restaurant in Chelsea called ‘Inti gourmet fine Peruvian food’ and it's like stepping into a little piece of Peru. The colours and the fabrics in there are vibrant, as well as the food being divine. Peruvian food is the best thing and this restaurant makes it pretty well even though homemade is always my go-to. What better way to connect to my culture than through food.
What is Australia’s best-kept secret?
Redwood forest is for sure my favourite place to go to in autumn or springtime. It's just so peaceful and calming and just such a great escape from the busyness of life. If you’re going there, just lay down and let yourself float away.
Best place to hang out in Australia?
Whether I’m by myself, with family or friends, I love the beach. Preferably beaches in Dromana cause they’re clearer. The sun, water and freedom at a beach is unmatched so definitely one of my favourite places to be.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Hush Hush Hush Hush' by The Pussycat Dolls. I was really young, like six or seven and I could not stop listening to that song. It became a part of my daily routine I was so obsessed. Apparently, the sassiness of the song was appealing to 6 year old me and I am not complaining cause it's a great song.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Get It Together' by India Arie. For me, this song represents resilience and just being your own anchor which I think is super important especially as you get older through your teenage years. I’d say this song defined those adolescent years because it's about growth and overcoming mental blocks which is what growing up really is about. In our society, there are pressures and standards that can affect young people. In spite of that, I feel like I got it together and came through for myself. As the song encourages. I’ll always love this song at any age.
One record you would keep forever?
'Dangerously in Love' by Beyonce. I've always said this and I will always say it is the record I would keep forever. It was the first full body of work I listened to as a young girl and it's been my favourite ever since. The vocals, the production, the music videos and the performances are just full of passion and energy. I could never get sick of the songs on that album because I feel like I can connect to all of them and that’s the best part about music. It's hard for me to choose just one track but id say I’m feeling the track 'Yes' the most right now.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
“The Parts we can’t tell, we carry them well but that doesn’t mean they’re not heavy”
From 'The Anonymous ones', originally performed by Amandla Stenberg and covered by SZA. The lyrics of this song are so brutally honest and comforting. Lyrically and sonically it just gives you a big hug. Mental health is so important and people who I am close with and myself have struggles but this song is just a gentle reminder that we’re all human and we go through the same emotions. Just beautifully put.
A song you wished you had written?
'The Truth' which was originally written by India Arie. Melodically it's so angelic and the lyrics couldn’t sit in the melody any better. The lyrics are simple and heartfelt and a song that I’ll always admire.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Mafiosa' by Nathy Peluso. There’s an energy and a fire that builds in your belly when you listen to salsa music and this song is just that. I’ll listen to it some mornings to get ready and awake for the day. Other times I’ll just blast it through the car and let the passion of the song take over. It’s a great song for summer.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
'Are You Bored Yet?' By Wallows. It's not the type of genre I usually listen to but it’s just so infectious and fun. I can’t wait to road trip with this song.
A song to get you straight on the dance floor?
'I like it' by Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin. One of those magnetic songs that you just have to sing or dance to. It's so vibrant with an addictive rhythm. It’s impossible for me to stand still if this song is on.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Lotus' by Jhene Aiko. After an all-nighter Id like a gentle song to go to sleep to or just chill too.
Any new bands you’re into at the moment?
My favourite brand right now is the skincare brand Tatcha. Skincare is a huge passion of mine and I’ve tried many many brands. I find you always have to experiment with different products to find what works best for your skin type. Recently I’ve started using Tatcha and it’s the best skincare I’ve ever tried. It’s high quality and leaves me with healthy, vibrant and dewy looking skin.
