Describe your style in three words?
Chosen by Mother.
The first track you played on repeat? And where did you play it?
The Flying Pickets - Only You
It’s my Mum’s favourite song and she always played it when I was small(er). In my humble opinion, it’s miles better than the original.
A song from your favourite album? And what does this track mean to you?
Morrissey - Now My Heart Is Full - 2014 Remaster
Apart from occasionally putting his foot in it, Morrissey can do no wrong in my eyes.
A song from your most memorable gig?
Alice Cooper - I'm Eighteen
I went to see Alice Cooper last year with my girlfriend. 72 years of age and he’s still up and about jumping round like a loon. WE’RE NOT WORTHY!
A song that always gets you up and dancing?
New Order - Blue Monday '88
You could play this song at a morgue and everyone would be dancing.
A new song you're listening to? Why do you like this artist?
Cocteau Twins - Cherry-coloured Funk
I recently saw the play ‘Death of England’ at the National Theatre, starring Rafe Spall. During a Q&A he spoke about songs which took him back to his childhood. I wrote it down and gave it a listen when I got home. It’s a nice little number.
Best song to turn up loud? And why?
Peaches - Fuck the Pain Away
Worth turning up to see people’s faces. Not the best to play at your Grandad’s 80th mind
A song that defines the teenage you? And the memories it evokes?
The Smiths - Half a Person - 2011 Remaster
The “16, clumsy and shy” bit particularly resonates with me. Not much has changed, except I’m 24 now.
An anthemic song? Why does it get your pulse racing?
Tony Rees and the Cottagers - Viva El Fulham
Alright, it may not be the most anthemic song. But when you’re 3-0 down at half time, it’s softens the blow! COYW!
Best song to end an all-nighter?
The Libertines - Don't Look Back into the Sun
Something by Coldplay. That’ll end the night for sure... Has to be Libertines for me!
