Graphic Designer / Illustrator — Singapore
A Moon Malek Photo
Name, what do you do?
I am Muneera Malek and my artist moniker is Moon Malek. I am a graphic designer and an illustrator based in Singapore.
Describe your style in three words?
Minimal, black, sometimes pink.
What does the Fred Perry Shirt mean to you?
Fred Perry shirt means wearing a piece of heritage and history on you. As I had the opportunity to work for Fred Perry (2017-2018) as a graphic designer, I had the privileged to learn and understand the stories and meaning behind the shirt and culture. Today, it’s a full-circle moment for me as I am honoured to be a Fred Perry ambassador in 2021.
When did you first dabble in the creative field?
In 2014, straight out of school, I’ve started with a self-initiated internship with a local nightclub in Singapore called Zouk Singapore. An iconic nightclub that celebrates art, music, and design. It was a stepping stone for me to explore music from different genres and cultures. From then onwards, I’ve participated in various local art exhibitions as an illustrator.
What inspires your work?
Pop culture and bold colours.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Visuel Kei! Their eccentric and bold fashion was the highlight. Their eclectic and experimental music made it exciting to discover and listen to.
Best song to end an all-nighter?
'Somebody To Love Me' by Mark Ronson and The Business international (ft. Boy George).
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
CJ Hendry! An Australian artist who is down to earth and who is super talented. But she is still alive and well!
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Mark Ronson.
