What do you do?
I’m a DJ and music collector specialising in Soul music from the '60s, '70s and '80s.

Describe your style in three words?
Smart, Selective, and Vintage.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The Fall Of Troy’s supposed final UK show at The Garage in Islington (2009) always comes to mind but there is so many to choose from! Thom Erak was an idol of mine at the time and I got to fist bump him when he was playing a one-handed solo. The teenage me was blown away.

If you could be on the line up with any two bands in history?
Jamiroquai, because their music inspired me to pick up the Bass guitar and become involved in performing live and I haven’t looked back and Black Sabbath, because it’s Sabbath!

Which subcultures have influenced you?
Rare Groove, Acid Jazz, Northern Soul, Mod, Hardcore Punk, Screamo, Skinhead Culture, Rave Culture - The list goes on!

If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
Bruce Lee, he was my childhood hero. I could find out the mystery behind his death and learn some kung fu and philosophy along the way - plus the man could dress!

Of all the venues you’ve played, which is your favourite?
A very difficult question! The Bunker in Deptford will always bring back fond memories. But it has to be The Square in Harlow (Before it was demolished) it was where I put on my first show, played my first gig and saw my first performance as a young teenager.

Who is your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
Gil Scott Heron, his music speaks to me on so many levels and the impact he has had on modern culture is unbelievable. Not to say he is completely unsung, but more people should know who that man is!

Ned Stax is a resident DJ at the Deptford Northern Soul Club, and he also plays every month at Eddie Piller's & Dean Chalkley's club night 'Soul Box' in Shoreditch. His new DJ collective and club night ‘Sound Collective’ with fellow London Selectors Dom Ore & Noble and Heath has made its debut in the winter of 2018 and continues to give a space for London's young vinyl heads to dance to records old and new.
