Name, where are you from?
Mike Murphy (frontman of The Wicked Whispers), Liverpool, UK.

What do you do?
Singer, songwriter and producer.

Describe your style in three words?
Open your mind.

How should your music be listened to?
As loud as possible.

What do you miss about home when you're on tour?
My wife and daughter.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been too?
Oasis, Finsbury Park 2002. It was a bunch of us mates all travelling down to London and having a laugh that made it special. I remember them playing 'Columbia' and thinking how amazing that song actually was.

What British music icons inspire your sound today?
The Beatles, The Kinks, Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd, The Small Faces, The Who, The Rolling Stones.

You can spend an hour with anyone from history - who would it be?
Peter Sellers. He was basically the funniest man alive in my book. We all need someone like that in our lives but to hear him be funny organically in conversation would be mind blowing. His humour was also sometimes inappropriate and ahead of its time, which gets me. The Goons back catalogue will have to do though.

The Wicked Whispers are a 5-peice rock n roll band from Liverpool. Their sound is rooted in the 1960s, big psychedelic vibes mixed with rhythm & blues and folk.

04Playlist Notes

What was the first song you played on repeat?
'Strawberry Fields Forever' by The Beatles.

One record you would keep forever?
Strange Days by The Doors, chosen track 'Unhappy Girl'.

Song you wish you had written?
‘Devil’s Haircut’ by Beck.

A music icon who has inspired you?
John Lennon. He's from my hometown of Liverpool and through that I always felt a connection to him like a lot of us Scousers do. He was imperfect as a man and as a musician which also defined him. His vocal style, attitude, wit and Charisma always make me compare my own work and sometimes my life.

A song that defines the teenage you?
'On Your Own' by The Verve from their A Northern Soul LP. I pretty much felt on my own and singled out a lot of my teenage years, spending months alone writing songs and learning the Guitar and this song struck a chord with me.

A song lyric that inspires you?
‘So long ago, was it in a dream, was it just a dream, I know, yes I know, seemed so very real, it seemed so real to me.’
'#9 Dream' by John Lennon.

4 songs you can’t stop listening to right now?

'Apocalypse Dreams' by Tame Impala
'Dreams' by Beck
'Detroit' by Gaz Coombes
'Whitebird' by The Coral

All great thought provoking tracks and beautiful songs to boot.
