Singer/Guitarist — Alloa, Scotland
A Vida Photo
Name?
Jamie Pollock
Where are you from?
Alloa, Central Scotland.
What do you do?
I’m the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and co-songwriter for the band Vida.
Describe your style in three words?
Casual-meets-modernist.
You can make a record with anyone from history – who would it be?
Alex Turner in his Humbug days with the Arctic Monkeys.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been too?
Got to be The Stone Roses at the Etihad stadium, hands down. The atmosphere was mind-blowing. Standing with your arms around two random forty-year-old skinheads singing ‘This Is The One’ is a moment I’ll never forget.
What British music icons inspire your sound today?
For me, it’s like a hybrid of The Verve and Oasis, Ashcroft’s melodic approach to songwriting mixed with the anthemic, raw and heartfelt sound from Oasis records. I want to write tunes that will have thousands of fans singing back at me.
You can spend an hour with anyone from history – who would it be and why?
I’d do anything to sit in the company of Keith Richards. After reading his autobiography ‘Life’, there are definitely some things I’d like to ask him.
Vida are a Britpop inspired 5-piece Rock n Roll band from Alloa, Scotland. Their debut EP 'Masquerade' was released in November 2016.
What was the first song you played on repeat?
My Mum told me that I used to always sing ‘Secret Smile’ by Semisonic as a child, and I still listen to the track nearly every day, must have stuck with me.
One record you would keep forever?
The Beatles, Abbey Road. The medley on Side 2 is a musical masterpiece, never gets old.
Song you wish you had written?
‘Why Does It Always Rain On Me?’ by Travis, the best song to come out of Scotland, take a bow, Fran Healy.
Song that defines the teenage you?
‘Born Slippy’ by Underworld. Always reminds me of the moment in the film Trainspotting when Begbie blows smoke into Renton’s face, my favourite movie scene.
A song lyric that inspires you?
“You’ve got to be yourself, you can’t be no one else”
From the Oasis stomper ‘Supersonic’. Undeniably up there with the greatest opening lyrics in history. Doesn’t matter how down you feel, blast that tune in the car and I can guarantee that you’ll feel like a boss.
4 Songs by new bands you can’t stop listening to right now?
‘Pacifier’ by Catfish And The Bottlemen
I love the raw energy in this track.
‘Blown Rose’ by Blossoms
sh*t hot chorus with an unforgettable melody, tune.
‘Aviation’ by The Last Shadow Puppets
Turner and Kane’s lyrics in this are next level.
‘Bumblebeee’ by Kasabian
I can imagine this track being insane live.
