Name, where are you from?
Josh Korody, Toronto, On.
Describe your style in three words?
Simple, sometimes wacky.
What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?
The Pixies, because it was a secret set in Hamilton, On and there were only 150 people there, I got to stand directly in front of the band that had a stage that was only a foot off the ground.
If you could be on the line up with any two artists in history?
Probably the Happy Mondays because it would be guaranteed a super fun show with people dancing. Another would be The Walker Brothers during the album 'Nite Flights' I don't think they even toured this record, it was more of an experiment of an album but it's easily in my top ten. It was the sound of a new decade in music, beautiful, dark, hooky and interesting.
Which subcultures have influenced you?
Too many lol. Mostly music-related. As a kid lots of '90s britpop-rock-dance. In high school I got into punk, then emo haha, then discovered indie rock-experimental. And in my later years, I found my new religion that is techno. I think it all makes sense that I loved these genres at these ages as I grew as a person-listener.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from history?
David Lynch. He's probably my biggest idol. A true artist in every form. I think he's such a fascinating person, I would love to see his reaction when I show him my portrait tattoo of him and my Twin Peaks tattoo.
Of all the venues you’ve been to or played, which is your favourite?
The Danforth Music Hall. Opening for The Breeders with my band Beliefs. My whole family came and were really proud. When I went up to the microphone to say hello to the audience my nervous soft voice sounded like I was on top of a mountain. We were so nervous we played our set so fast that we finished 10 minutes early.
Your greatest unsung hero or heroine in music?
My ex-partner/close friend Robyn from the band Vallens. Their new record 'In Era' should be on everyone's lists this year.
Toronto-based producer and artist, Josh Korody (Nailbiter, Beliefs) who works under the moniker, Breeze, recently released his new album 'Only Up'. Listen, purchase or stream it via smarturl.it/hdd091.
The first track you played on repeat?
'Smooth Criminal' by Michael Jackson.
A song that defines the teenage you?
'Pulmonary Archery' by Alexisonfire.
One record you would keep forever?
'Loveless' by My Bloody Valentine.
A song lyric that has inspired you?
"New York, I love you but you're bringing me down"
From 'New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down' by LCD Soundsystem.
The song that would get you straight on the dance floor?
'24 Hour Party People' by Happy Mondays.
A song you wished you had written?
'Head Over Heels' by Tears For Fears.
Best song to turn up loud?
'Loaded' by Primal Scream.
A song people wouldn’t expect you to like?
This one is so hard cause it depends who you'd ask. I know my 20-year-old self never thought I would start a techno label and be dancing to a track like 'Baby, Baby' by Floorplan.
Best song to end an all-nighter on?
Egotistically 'Come Around - Prince Josh Remix' is my new favourite. The release is TBA. 'The Joy' by Prince Josh.
Any new music you are listening to right now?
'Quick Thought' by Kyle Edward Connolly.
'Ghost' by Cadence Weapon.
'Vibrant Colours' by Zoon.
'Connie’s Got A New Phone' by Bike Thiefs.
